Elias Schmidt founded the Corset factory in Coburg, where he designed for court and the surrounding area at that time. Due to his willingness to serve and his inventive spirit, the company gained high prestige in a short time, and soon appeared a whole new range of models, which were very popular in the ladies' world. After his death in 1883, his son Eduard Schmidt and his brother-in-law lead the company further.

In the year 1894, Eduard Schmidt’s twenty-year-old son Gustav, who had inherited his grandfather’s inventive talents, joined his father in running the corset factory, and brought a breath of fresh air to the firm. Gustav Schmidt designed a novel sport corset that allowed women to breathe more freely. It entered the market successfully with the aid of a few catchy rhymes. In just one year, Gustav Schmidt was able to hire 25 seamstresses, where previously only two sewing machines were in operation.
